For this artifact, I chose a sample of my weekly choir warm-ups plan. This artifact illustrates my understanding of student development and illustrates my ability to provide my students with opportunities to exercise developing skills. Warm-ups are an excellent time to develop emerging musical skills under low-pressure (and usually fun) circumstances. Students know that what we work on in warm-ups will be a focus for the class time. It provides them the opportunity to practice skills and concepts taught in class. I start every class period with a focus warm-up. This year I chose "Amazing Grace," having the students sing on a different vowel every day. The purpose of a focus warm-up is to help students transition from learning outside of the music classroom to being ready to sing. The warm-ups following that are designed to exercise skills learned in class and to develop the singing voice. They are designed to develop breath support, range, agility and a corporate sound. Each one of these will directly affect the quality of the students' performance and their application of skills learned in class.
This artifact provides evidence of my understanding of the Idaho Standards for Music Teachers Standard 2 and the Danielson Framework Domain 1, Standards 1a, 1b, 1c, and 1e.
