For this artifact, I chose a copy of the rubric for a Small Ensemble Test (SET) Assessment. I chose this artifact because it demonstrates my ability to plan and implement assessment in my classroom. For this test, students are divided into a small group or ensemble to sing a selection from our repertoire. I used this assessment around once a month to determine that students were making progress toward mastering skills necessary for creating quality performances. Students were given this rubric (or very similar rubrics) a week before the test to ensure that each student knew what was going to be on the test in advance. Then I would rehearse the desired skills as a class, and in small groups to allow them opportunity to practice the skills without worrying about the grade. Additionally, I designed this rubric to be used as evidence that individual students were making progress in musical skills. Using this rubric often, I could track which students were making progress on what skill and which needed additional instruction. For this reason, I decided to call the lowest score "Developing" because it allowed students to understand that receiving a lower grade does not mean they are terrible, but that they are still developing those skills. This helped to maintain postive motivation for individuals who needed addtional time or instruction to meet course goals.
