For this artifact, I chose the program from the Fall Music Concert at Greenleaf Friends Academy, which occurred in October, 2013. This artifact illustrates my ability to choose quality music for a variety of ensembles. This was the first concert I directed at this school. For this concert, my focus was on getting to know the students involved and their ability levels and on selecting music which the students would be able to connect to for various reasons. For each ensemble, I selected music that was significant and substantial enough to be working on for several weeks in preparation for the concert, but I also selected pieces which appealed to students by being beautiful and fun, yet serious. When I started, I was the third music teacher that the school had employed in three years, so needless to say, morale and interest in the music program had dwindled significantly. My main goal was to keep the students interested while also teaching them valuable musical concepts and skills. Some of these songs are my students favorites still and they continue to request to sing or play them when we have an extra moment. This artifact satisfies the Idaho Standards for Music Teachers Standard 1 and the Danielson Framework Domain 1 Standards 1a, 1b, 1d, 1e.
